Mika Kallio, who took his fourth World Championship medal last Sunday on Valencia, started the preparations for upcoming Moto2-season at Jerez this week. A three-day Jerez test was also his debut with Italian Italtrans team, with whom Kallio, 32, signed 1+1 -year agreement on September this year.
Jerez test, which was addressed to smaller Moto2 and Moto3 -classes, wasn’t really a success. The three-day test from Wednesday to Friday was disrupted by bad weather, which limited the testing time.
- Weather was bad throughout the test. It was neither dry nor wet, but something between them. It was also raining occasionally, which meant that everything began from the start, Kallio said.
- First two days I also had problems with my engine, which unfortunately wasn’t working properly. That caused us lots of problems too.
- But on last day, when we changed the engine, everything started to work well. I rode a good day with wet tyres, although the track wasn’t fully wet either.
- But what was most important was the fact, that I managed to ride the first laps with my new Italtrans bike and practice how to work with my new team and chief mechanic, Kallio added.
Kallio, who previously rode four years with Belgian Marc VDS Racing team, admitted, that he didn’t remember, how complicated it is to change to a new team.
- After four years with Marc VDS, I didn’t remember, how does it feel to join a new team. It’s not that easy and there’s lot to do to harmonize our procedures, Kallio stated.
After Jerez test smaller classes will now continue to Valencia, which will host a two-day test from Monday onwards.
- Valencia two-day test will be the most important test, because we will be able to use our 2015 bike there. Those laps will be very crucial, because two-month testing ban will begin on December 1st.
