The upcoming season will be interesting for the Finnish Moto2 driver Mika Kallio. After four steady years as a pilot for Belgian Marc VDS Racing, Mika Kallio decided to change his team to the Italian Italtrans Racing Team.
One of the key points, Kallio stresses, is to ensure the best possible performance on track and in order to reach that, flawless cooperation between him and his new race engineer is critical.
- From the very beginning we have to co-operate seamlessly and speak the same language. It’s essential to be able to rely on your race engineer, as it builds confidence for both the driver and the team. The Italtrans team is very professional so I’m sure we have all the right pieces in place to in order to succeed this season.
Last year Kallio faced some problems with rear tyre endurance and this is one of the issues he has decided to focus on during the pre-season tests. Italtrans is working really hard to find the best settings for the new Kalex 2015 bike and Kallio himself still needs to adapt his driving style to fit the bike to get the best out of the season.
Kallio has been racing for more than a dozen of seasons on the world championship level and is one of the most experienced riders in the paddock and in the current Moto2 series. Despite the many years and long career the Finn still carries a strong passion for the sport in question and is eager to get to work. Kallio’s ultimate goal is to win the road racing world championship title and this year he is as close as ever, finishing second in the series in 2014.
- My passion for this sport is still as strong as in the beginning of my career. Nothing beats the feeling you get from pushing your bike to the limits. Motivation to win the championship is already atop starting from the first test sessions and I feel great, says the self-confident Kallio.
Moto2 official test season kicks off on February 10th in Valencia, Spain.
