Kallio’s race destroyed by rear tyre problem

The first half of the Moto2 season of 2015 is now wrapped up after this Sunday’s Sachenring GP. Mika Kallio started the race from grid position 10, and after yet another good start,he began climbing towards the top. He made it up until 5th place, when familiar problems arrived, this time earlier than expected. Kallio finished the race in 12th position, after his rear tyre lost grip on the eight lap of the race.

-We are not sure what the reason was and what happened with the tyre, I just felt a complete loss of grip and after the race we saw that the tyre was ripped. I am angry and disappointed for sure, since I had a good pace right from the beginning. It seems that bad luck is still with us, unfortunately, an exasperated Kallio sighed.

-The start was ok and I managed to climb up fast, but lost the advantage along with the lost grip and the final 21 laps were pure survival, with guys passing me easily from both sides. My lap times became 1,5seconds slower towards the end, so the difference was really huge, Kallio continued.

Even though the race result was negative for Kallio, there were good things going on this weekend in Germany bike development-wise.

-We were able to improve the front’s behaviour, and therefore I was faster this weekend than ever before during this season. Sadly we guess that the issues with the rear tyre were doubled up due to the settings we used to work with the front, so the situation is tricky. There seems to be no good way, it’s either one problem or another, Kallio shook his head.

The Moto2 season is now on a summer break and the series continues in Indianapolis, USA in the beginning of August. Kallio has his hands full despite the upcoming holidays and his riding continues, as he participates to the Michelin MotoGP tyre tests in Misano next week.

-We have no Moto2 tests during the race break, but I will work with Michelin next week for some additional tyre testing, as they are making a comeback to MotoGP next season as the official tyre manufacturer. We test three days in Italy and I really look forward to seeing what they have done in the R&D department and how the new tyres feel. After all, I know a lot about tyres, Kallio finished with a smile.
