Mika Kallio traveled from Indianapolis, USA to the heat of Brno, Czech Republic this week. The two GP’s preceding Brno have been good for Kallio in terms of pace, but during the race the results have been near catastrophic. In Sachsenring Kallio lost the grip of his rear tyre mid race and fell back seven positions and in Indianapolis, where he started from the first row, he was forced out of track and crashed. The Moto2 vice world champion from last season has now had it with bad luck and is determined to succeed in Brno.
-The previous race of Indy was just a few days ago and the bitter aftertaste is still there. I can’t believe how much bad luck I have had this season. I think my mood will become better once I get on the bike again, but I have to say that last Sunday was a huge disappointment. Now I feel like showing off what I’ve got, since good results have been so close and I know I can do better, Kallio stated.
The race weekends of Sachsenring and Indianapolis were the best of the season for Kallio in terms of pace, steadiness and consistency of riding throughout the weekend. His pace was in line with the fastest group and now, strengthened by the improvements, Kallio is looking forward to a good result in Brno. Statistics-wise, the possibilities are there, since Kallio has a strong track record from Brno, finishing second last year and winning the year before.
-My expectations are high, since I am co-operating better with the bike race by race and through increased trust, my pace is improving. The thing that makes a difference here in Brno is finding the lost front grip, which has been a major issue this season. The track grip is a lot better in Brno than in Indy, so it will be interesting to see how it affects the performance of riders. We need to find a set-up that will work here and on Friday we can see whether we will use the previous settings, or take whole different direction, a determined Kallio finished.
