Mika Kallio and his new team, QMMF, have an interesting three weeks ahead of them when the MotoGP-family takes off to the triple overseas race tour. Grand Prix races will take place on three successive weekends, starting from Motegi Japan, moving on to Phillip Island Australia and finishing at Sepang, Malaysia. Kallio faces his second race of the year with QMMF on Sunday and he aims to make his way closer to the top, slowly but surely.
-The bikes were shipped to Motegi directly from Aragon, so there is basically nothing we could have done or no possibility for testing after the first race. We’ll continue our work this weekend and we have a good plan on how to proceed. Everything is as ready as it can be, so let’s hope we can keep up the good work, Kallio commented.
In general, the free practices of this season have not been easy for Kallio, as he has been riding with differing settings in almost every FP-session of the year. When the initial work is done with the new QMMF / Speed Up-bike, Kallio looks forward to consistency and smaller adjustments during race weekends.
-We had a good discussion with the team after the Aragon GP and we have conducted our plans for Motegi according to the feedback of the previous race. On Friday morning I aim to complete as many laps as possible, to learn more about the bike. During the free practice session of the afternoon, we have planned to try some new things. We’ll take it slow to avoid confusion with dramatic changes in settings and I believe this a good strategy for the weekend, Kallio continued.
The Twin Ring -circuit of Motegi is one of Kallio’s favourites and he has won three times on this track, which statistically concludes to a track with most collected personal victories on the tour.
-I really like to ride on this track and the profile, so-called stop and go, suits me well. There are a lot of slow corners, long straights and hard braking points. With the new bike we still have some adjustments to be done, concerning especially braking and turning in to slow corners, so this is a good place to develop that. I came here to work hard, so it suits me well, Kallio laughed.
